RADIOLOGY AND ULTRASOUND

Advanced Imaging for Accurate Diagnosis and Better Outcomes

At Karalee Karana Veterinary Surgery, we believe that accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. That’s why we’ve invested in advanced digital imaging equipment — offering both digital X-ray and ultrasound services in-clinic, so we can provide timely, detailed insights into your pet’s health.

Just like in human medicine, radiology and ultrasound play a vital role in modern veterinary care. These tools allow us to assess everything from broken bones to organ function, often helping us detect problems before they become more serious.

Digital Radiology (X-Rays)

Clearer images. Faster answers.

Our state-of-the-art digital X-ray technology produces high-quality images in seconds, allowing our team to quickly identify and assess a range of health issues, often during your pet’s consultation.

Digital X-rays help us diagnose:

  • Bone fractures and dislocations
  • Joint issues, including arthritis
  • Spinal problems
  • Dental disease (with our dedicated digital dental X-ray machine)
  • Chest and abdominal concerns, such as tumours or fluid build-up

Because the system is digital, we can enhance and zoom in on images to detect subtle changes that may not have been visible with older film-based technology.

ULTRASOUND IMAGING

Seeing what X-rays can’t.

Ultrasound provides a real-time look inside your pet’s body using sound waves — and is particularly valuable for soft tissue and internal organ assessments. It’s completely non-invasive and can often be done while your pet is awake or under mild sedation.

We use ultrasound to examine:

  • Liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, and intestines
  • Masses or abnormalities in the abdomen
  • Heart structure and function (basic cardiac assessments)
  • Early pregnancy and foetal health

In many cases, ultrasound can detect issues that X-rays cannot — especially when organs appear “normal” on radiographs but are still affected by disease.

WHEN MIGHT MY PET NEED IMAGING?

Your vet may recommend radiology or ultrasound to:

  • Investigate symptoms like vomiting, limping, coughing, or weight loss
  • Diagnose or monitor chronic conditions (e.g. arthritis, kidney disease)
  • Confirm pregnancies or monitor reproductive health
  • Examine injuries after accidents or trauma

FAST, ACCURATE RESULTS — All Under One Roof

With both digital X-ray and ultrasound available on-site, there’s no need to travel to another facility for diagnostic imaging. Our team is trained to interpret these results quickly and accurately, allowing us to begin the right treatment without delay.
